KNIFE RIVER BASIN

LOCATION.--Lat 4717'10", long 10155'31", in SE1/4SE1/4SW1/4 sec.14, T.144 N., R.89 W., Mercer County, Hydrologic Unit
   10130201, on left bank 250 ft downstream from Burlington Northern Railway bridge in Zap and 9 mi upstream from mouth.

DRAINAGE AREA.--549 mi2.

                                                    WATER-DISCHARGE RECORDS

PERIOD OF RECORD.--March to September 1924, October 1945 to current year.

GAGE.--Water-stage recorder. Datum of gage is 1,819.39 ft above sea level. Mar. 4 to Sept. 30, 1924, non-recording gage at site
   250 ft upstream at different datum. Oct. 1, 1945, to Sept. 30, 1947, nonrecording gage 250 ft upstream at datum 1.12 ft
   higher.

REMARKS.--Records good except for periods of estimated discharge, which are poor. Flow slightly regulated by Lake Ilo, 56 mi
   upstream, capacity 7,130 acre-ft.

EXTREMES OUTSIDE PERIOD OF RECORD.--Maximum stage known occurred in about 1902, from ice jam. Floods of February 1913 and March
   1943 reached a stage of about 20 ft and 19.5 ft, respectively, from information by local residents.
