U.S. Geological Survey personnel measure peak streamflow for the Turtle River gaging station at Turtle River State Park near Arvilla, North Dakota. 

The tractor uses hydraulics to raise and lower a 200-pound sounding weight with a velocity meter.  The sounding weight is suspended below the velocity meter to keep the meter stationary in the swift current.
