NWISWeb - The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) launched the National Water Information System (NWISWeb) in 2001. As a result, the public received access to several hundred million pieces of archival and real-time data collected by the Federal earth science agency during a span of more than 100 years. NWISWeb is an integral part of the USGS mission to disseminate important water-quality and -quantity data to the public. These data can help water managers, engineers, scientists, emergency managers, recreational water users, utilities, and others to:
The National Map is a seamless, continuously maintained set of public domain geographic base information that serves as a foundation for integrating, sharing, and using other data easily and consistently.
EarthExplorer - EarthExplorer allows users to query and order satellite images, aerial photographs, and cartographic products through the USGS.
Geographic Names Information System - The Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), developed by the USGS in cooperation with the U.S. Board on Geographic Names (BGN), contains information about almost 2 million physical and cultural geographic features in the United States. The federally-recognized name of each feature described in the database is identified, and references are made to a feature's location by state, county, and geographic coordinates. The GNIS is our Nation's official repository of domestic geographic names information.
TerraServer - TerraServer contains 3.3 tera-bytes of high resolution USGS aerial imagery and USGS topographic maps. The Microsoft TerraServer Web site, a USGS Cooperative Research and Development Agreement, is one of the world's largest online databases, providing free public access to a vast data store of maps and aerial photographs of the United States. TerraServer is designed to work with commonly available computer systems and Web browsers over slow speed communications links. The TerraServer name is a play on words, with 'Terra' referring to the 'earth' or 'land' and also to the terabytes of images stored on the site.
TopoZone - TopoZone, through the USGS Business Partner Program, provides an interactive interface that allows users to view a seamless topographic map and feature database of the entire United States that is based on digital raster graphics.
USGS Publications Warehouse - The Publications Warehouse is a report and thematic map database that contains more than 61,000 bibliographic citations, including numbered series begun as early as 1882. Citations and online documents are added regularly. Availability of content ranges from full text to bibliographic citation only. Biological report citations, primarily historical research reports, are included. These citations include reports released by the Fish and Wildlife Service as well as the National Biological Survey prior to the creation of the Biological Resources Division of the USGS. Search bibliographic citations and obtain USGS products
U.S. Geological Survey Museum - This collection serves to illustrate important achievements and challenges to the earth sciences, to document the history of the USGS, and to enlighten those who use the collection. To Top of PageLewis & Clark Home |
